Editing of citations in Zotero library not reflected in Word bibliography

I edited some of my references in my library (changing capitalization, adding journal volume number) but the changes are not showing up in my Word document bibliography. I press the little green circular arrow to synch Zotero, and I refresh Zotero while in Word, and I re-inserted my bibliography. I've re-installed my Word for Mac 2011 plug-in to the latest version (14.3.8), downloaded the latest version of Firefox (25.0.1 and Word for Mac 2011, and tried everything again. Any ideas on why things aren't synching properly?
  • what happens when you insert the citation from your library as a new citation to the document? Assuming you're using a numerical style - does it get the same number or a different one?
(If you're using the quick format dialog, make sure you insert the citation listed under "My Library" not under "Cited")
  • Aha. It got a new number. Both the old one and the new one appear in the bibliography. The new one (#4) has the volume and page numbers, but still has the "Available at:" The old one (now #5) isn't updated and has the URL included:

    4. Brasier, C. M., Franceschini, S., Vettraino, A., Hansen, E. M., Green, S., Robin, C., et al. 2012. Four phenotypically and phylogenetically distinct lineages in Phytophthora lateralis. Fungal Biol. 116:1232–1249 Available at: [Accessed November 16, 2012].

    5. Brasier, C. M., Franceschini, S., Vettraino, A., Hansen, E. M., Green, S., Robin, C., et al. Four phenotypically and phylogenetically distinct lineages in Phytophthora lateralis. Fungal Biol. • ok - I don't think there's an alternative to replacing all occurrences of 5. with 4. manually*. For once reason or the other that citations connection to the Zotero database got broken, which is why it doesn't update. Using Word, you should be able to just copy and past the citation, you don't need to use the Word plugin every time.
(In case other people try to follow this: That won't work in LibreOffice, unfortunately.)

*there technically is, but it's rather finnicky and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have >30 instances or so of that citation.
  • Well, of my 50 or so references, about 30 of them have been edited in the library but the changes don't synch in the bibliography. Are you saying I need to manually reinsert all 30 of them (each one is cited once or maybe two or three times in the text)? It's maddening that my library isn't synching with my bibliography. Why is this happening?
  • hard to say, but the most common reason would be
    - using export/import to move or restore a library or
    - citing from a group/library you no longer have access to.
