Sync problem when changing tag name

I recently had a problem with tags and wasn't sure what happened, and I think I recreated the problem. Using Zotero Standalone for Mac, I needed to remove a tag from about 60 studies but not every single study with that tag. As a work around, I added a new tag to the studies I wanted tagged, deleted the old tag, then changed the name of the new tag back to the old one. When I check on zotero.org, the changes aren't syncing. (The tag is "needs to be tagged")

Any help would be appreciated! I've had a lot of troubles with mass deleting tags and then them re-appearing because they did not sync correctly.

    Have you tried restarting your browser? Right now tags are cached a bit too aggressively on the website.

    Interesting. In another browser (Firefox) neither the new nor old tag appears. Are you saying this shouldn't be a problem in the long run as long? I work from multiple computers which is what got me in trouble in the first place.

    Correction: the tag shows, but it's still incorrect (same as it says in Chrome)

    Could you email the relevant tags to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread (or just post them here if you don't mind)? Oh, sorry, I see that you included it above. Is that the old one or the temporary one?

    In any case, there certainly may be a bug here, but if you add an item to the tag (or remove an item from it), all items with that tag locally should have the tag applied on the server.

    The way tags sync is changing with a major overhaul of the sync architecture in Zotero 4.1, so assuming you can fix this for now, it's probably not worth worrying too much about. (And some of those issues with tags being restored to items because of sync conflicts should go away too.) For now, your best bet is to make sure that auto-sync is enabled. It also can't hurt to sync between major changes — say, between adding the new tag and deleting the old one — but that obviously shouldn't be necessary.

    Ok, I can sync between major changes in the future, and see if that works. When will 4.1 come out?

    To update: those changes I made locally never were updated because I just re-synced Standalone and all my changes were lost: there are now 100 items tagged "needs to be tagged" when in fact there should only be 24 from changes I made in Standalone. To make things even more odd, that doesn't even match online which says there are 98 studies with this tag. ??

    FYI, The old tag was "needs to be tagged" and the temporary one was "needs to to be tagged." I did the changes very quickly. I'll re-try the process now and sync between changes and see if that works.

    Ok, this sync after every change is working. Would love for this to get fixed in 4.1. Thanks for the help!

    It seems that I have the same problem. I erase some tags in one of the computers were I use Zotero and neither Standalone nor Firefox plugin are able to sync with the server. The sync icon keeps turning and turning for hours.

    fabiancid: That's not the same issue, but it looks like it's working for you now. If not, please start a new thread.

    Well I just reset my library from the server and now is sincyng correctly.
