libre office add-ins not installing (4.1.3.2)
  • tried manual installation and got the following even though my version is 4.1.3.2 the most recent.

Upon manual installation of the OpenOffice.org/NeoOffice/LibreOffice component, you may see the message

“Could not create java implementation loader”

This is usually caused by an outdated version of OpenOffice, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice that does not properly locate the system Java installation.
  • ok figured it out.

    the troubleshooting instructions specify
"Open the LibreOffice/OpenOffice options dialog by choosing Tools→Options (Windows/Linux) or LibreOffice→Preferences… (Mac). In the dialog, click LibreOffice→Advanced or OpenOffice→Java. Ensure that “Use a Java runtime environment” is checked, and that a JRE is selected in the list below."

Well I have a Mac and I did that and the JRE appeared, after a few seconds. But I still wasn't able to install the extension manually. What wasn't clear was that you have to click (what I now know) is a radio button next to the JRE. Once I did that, I was able to manually install the extension.

    Not entirely intuitive.
I'm still not feeling like I could get the majority of people at my research group to go through these niggling installation issues that seem to crop up every time there are upgrades to the OS or Zotero or libreoffice, even though I would love to wean them off endnote.
  • well, several Endnote versions don't work with OSX 10.9 at all so it's not like you never have any update issues with Endnote...
This is also not the norm, I'd say in >95% of all cases this just installs.
