Group Library not displayingexcept on local Zotero

I created a new Group yesterday, with subcollections, and moved items into it on my local Zotero server where it is all displaying and functioning correctly (two of the 4 subcollections are still intentionally empty). However when I log in to Zotero.org, I can see there is a group library (Whole School Conversations) but when I click on that library, it is empty. (My other "test" groups with not much in them are displaying correctly). I'm using Zotero 4.0.15 on my Mac laptop which I have not updated to 8. My Zotero account synched correctly yesterday, even after I created the group, but now it is hanging up when it synchs. Do I need to purchase Zotero storage as a group owner (I don't have an unusually large collection). Have not seen precisely this problem on the forum. Thanks for any advice. Linda
  • No, you do not need to purchase anything extra. Even if you are trying to upload references with file attachments, which would use your storage quota, the metadata would still sync.

What is the hang up with the sync now? Is there a red exclamation mark? Can you click it and report the error and post the Report ID here?
  • Yes, there is a red exclamation mark and this is the error report:

[JavaScript Error: "Error: Last name 'Paola Cassinelli 1 , Luciano Marras 2 , Chiara Mic…' too long" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync.js" line: 652}]

[JavaScript Error: "Error: Last name 'Paola Cassinelli 1 , Luciano Marras 2 , Chiara Mic…' too long" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync.js" line: 652}]
  • That should be fairly self-explanatory. You need to find the item that has that incorrectly entered name and fix it. Search for part of that name in your library or your group library.

Also, could you take note of where that record came from? The Library Catalog fields should help if this was imported from a web page.
  • It was a conference paper from http://www.ndt.net which doesn't make sense at all since it was on scientific methodologies to identify art prints and the site is called Open Access NDT and has nothing to do with art! Anyway, it was in a Zotero collection I made at least two years ago in Zotero, back when Google Scholar was putting titles in all caps, etc. I think I found the source originally on Google Scholar.
I just deleted it from two locations (folder and My library). Still getting the red exclamation point when I synch (not the first time I synched, but it popped up again when I synched a second time).
  • The reason I asked is because we would like to prevent such errors in the future by fixing our web/import translators. But since it looks like this was an old import (so it probably should have prevented you from syncing this whole time), it's probably no longer relevant.

For the new error, we would need to know what the error actually is. Either submit the error report and post the Report ID here or post the error message like you did above.
  • Seems to be working now! It's weird that it was from such an old collection and just caused problems this week! I had to delete it in three places, including trash.
Thanks very much for your assistance.
