Folders Don't Display Correct Contents

Hello,

When I click on my folders within the library (double or single, I tried both) it continues to show the items from the first folder I was in. In other words, I am in folder A and I change to B, C or D and I still am seeing the contents of A. To see contents of B, I have to go out of Zotero and go back in and sometimes even that doesn't work.

I am a new Zotero user just starting doctoral research. My university offers the programs that are privately owned (i.e. those that cost, I think its called Endnote) for free to students. I chose Zotero out of principle more than anything else. I appreciate that it is free software and am very grateful to all those involved in the project. However, I would like to know, honestly, from other users, if this type of problem is common (ie frequent)? Then I can make a better decision about whether to switch to another program before its too late (before I spend a year filling Zotero up with citations) or whether to be patient and stick with it.

Thanks for your help. I hope my frankness doesn´t offend anyone.
  • I've never seen this happen.
Which version of Zotero are you using?

Version 4.0.14. It stopped doing it now, but it had done it all morning long...

If this has never happened to you before, I guess that is good news because it could mean it is unusual.

I will stick with it for a while and see what happens.
  • If this happens again, you can try submitting a Debug ID for switching between collections.

Bugs will appear occasionally, but Zotero tends to patch them up pretty quickly. We're also working on ways to reduce end-user exposure to them.
  • If you're using Zotero for Firefox - display weirdness is most frequently caused by conflicts with other add-ons.
Also, you should update to version 4.0.15 which came out last night.
  • THANK YOU both for your helpful comments.

Could I ask which add-ons often conflict with Zotero to consider un-installing them?

Next time I will try the Debug ID and tag as "switching between collections".

    Thank you again.
  • These are the ones we know of (or at least the ones that used to be a problem at one point or another and may not any more)

  • beyond those, I'd mainly look for add-ons that are _not_ very popular. For popular add-ons we likely would have reports already.
  • Since it sounds from your other thread like you're still experiencing this, check your database integrity in the Advanced -> Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences.
  • For reference:
[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: this._getItemAtRow(...) is undefined" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/itemTreeView.js" line: 1144}]
[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: this._getItemAtRow(...) is undefined" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/itemTreeView.js" line: 1120}]
  • The Data Base Integrity Check had no errors to report.

I restarted my computer and Firefox a few times and it has stopped doing it for now. Apologies for the bother.

Next time I will be sure to use the same discussion page instead of starting a new thread.

    Thanks for your help
