Word Plugin Add/Edit Citation: Allow two locators

Students at our institution use a lot of church documents that require multiple locators for a given citation, such as canon and section, or section and line number. The Add/Edit Citation wizard only allows you to use one locator, and I think it would be GREAT if there was an option to use multiple locators (add a second drop down menu, or have the option to add this functionality). You can add this information manually but then you lose the link for updates.
  • yes, we need a way to address this, but it's a bit tricky to do it well both in the styles and GUI-wise.
That said, a much better workaround than adding this manually in the citation is to just include the second locator into the locator field.
Say you want to add "col. 2, par. 3" - select column as the locator and put "2, par. 3" into the locator field in the word plugin.
  • I wouldn't favour a GUI for multiple locator labels. Parsing shorthand labels out of the field (for pluralising and localising them) is easier to implement and probably less cumbersome to users (at least it seems so to me).
  • I agree with fbennett, though it is important to ensure that this is supported in the Classic Add Citation dialog. I have many users who much prefer it over the new dialog.
  • they both pass on locators to the processor the same way, so I don't think there's any question about that.
