copy/paste a DOI

Hallo!
I use Zotero (German version) with Ubuntu 13.04 64bit and tried both the Firefox plugin and the stand-alone version. Everything works very well but:

I cannot use Ctrl+V "paste" (neither the right-click-menue and paste) to enter a DOI into the "magic wand" field. I have to type the code in. Than it works an I get the reference within less than a second! But this is time consuming and very annoying...

Any suggestions what I could do to fix it?

Regards!
Klara
  • Right-click -> Paste has never worked, but Ctrl + V should be working. Are you sure you can paste everywhere else using Ctrl + V? If you can, then disable all other plugins and see if it helps.
  • Hallo!
I can Ctrl+V e.g. in the search field within zotero. And in the browser (e.g. google search) and everywhere else (LibriOffice, Thunderbird, Editor).

You refer to other mozilla plugins? I have only two "basic" ones and disabeld them, restarted mozilla, but that does not solve the problem.

Actually there happens more than I described before: When the curser is in the DOI field and I press Ctrl (and try to paste with Ctrl+V) it jumps to the search field.

Since I already reinstalled zotero some days ago I am not sure if this cold help, but perhaps I have to try this again...

Thank you for your fast reply!

  • Reinstalling would probably make no difference. I don't have access to Ubuntu right now, but I'll take a closer look at this tomorrow.
  • Thanks :-)!
  • It's not an Ubuntu issue, works fine for me. (though I'm still running 12.10, but I doubt that makes a difference)
ctually there happens more than I described before: When the curser is in the DOI field and I press Ctrl (and try to paste with Ctrl+V) it jumps to the search field.
This sounds like it may be a setting of the ctrl button, maybe?
  • Hallo adamsmith,

"This sounds like it may be a setting of the ctrl button, maybe?"

I do not understand what you mean by this. In general my Ctrl works fine. Only in the specific Zotero-Field there is that problem, not generally in Zotero.

Perhaps I have to live with that!

    Cheers!

  • What I meant is that Ubuntu allows you to specify all types of functions to any key or key combination - if ctrl makes your cursor jump anywhere that sounds like it could be such a setting. It's not like Unity is all that transparent on when/how such things work...

Hallo! Latest news: Now I use Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) and everything works.
  • I am using standalone version on Mac and can't paste DOI info using any method in the "Add item(s) by indentifier" field. Help! Not being able to do this slows me down in adding items to my library.
  • This is most likely unrelated, since it's a different OS. Start a new thread.

Can you paste into the search box? Have you tried pasting with Command + V?
  • I can paste using all formats in the search field. Command +V doesnt work in the "add item" field
