Firefox not communicating with Standalone

I downloaded a video viewing program (VLC media) and also inadvertently downloaded FindWide for Firefox. Now when I have Zotero Standalone open and try to download a reference from Firefox using the icon the reference downloads into the web Firefox and not the Zotero Standalone. How can I get it to download into Zotero Standalone only?

Thanks
  • Start by disabling all add-ons in Firefox and try again.
  • Adam,
I disabled all add-ons and uninstalled the web version of Zotero and then reinstalled the web version and enabled the Zotero add-on. It is still not communicating with Zotero Standalone when Standalone is open. What should I try next?

    Thanks
  • to avoid confusion in the future: there is no "web" Zotero that you can install. The Firefox add-on is just as local as the standalone.

You will need to set data directory for Zotero for Firefox (under preferences --> advanced --> files and folders) to point to the one you're using in Standalone:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
  • Note that once you change the data directory in Zotero for Firefox, any new items that you added to Zotero for Firefox after it stopped interacting with Standalone will no longer be available in Zotero.

If you want to keep these items you can either sync your Zotero for Firefox library with zotero.org and then sync it again when you change the data directory; or you can export these items (sort by date added to easily find all of them) as Zotero RDF that can then be re-imported later.
