Syncing from online library to desktop app

Hello zotero community,

My previous laptop was stolen a couple of months ago, thankfully i had backed up my mac with time machine. When i got my new laptop, i installed zotero from time machine and i thought i was going to be able to retrieve my research data. Unfortunately, this did not happen but i was glad to see that my data was still on the online server. However, i have been unable to find how do i sync or transfer the info in my online library to the desktop app installed in my new laptop. I have tried making changes but this has not resulted in the syncing of the app. What could be wrong?

Thanks.
  • the only thing you should have to do would be to sync with the correct username & password entered in the sync tab of the Zotero app preferences - there's no special action required.
    If that's not working see

    and provide the requested info

Time Machine should certainly back up your Zotero data, though. What do you mean by "i installed zotero from time machine"?

Just copying the application from the Applications directory in Time Machine wouldn't restore your data. You'd need to restore your Zotero data directory (or just the entire Firefox directory in "[home]/Library/Application Support").
