Word Add-in

I am trying to insert citations and create a bibliography for a paper. When I click either the citation or bibliography button, a message saying "Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate extension is installed and try again." I have tried to reinstall the word plugin, but get the message "Zotero Word for Windows Integration could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file."
How can I fix this problem?
  • That's a rare error, typically a Firefox problem. You could try using a new, clean Firefox profile and see if that works:

  • Okay, thanks for your help!
  • I'm using Firefox and the Word plugin for MS Word 2007 for Windows. In a video tutorial I saw a + and a - button for adding and removing citation styles in the Document Preferences menu. I have no such buttons in my Word add-in. Should these be there or were they removed in the latest revision. I was able to fumble around and find the styles repository. And from that I figured out how to add a style to the Word add-in, but I don't see any way to remove a style. How are you suppose to add and remove styles in the current version of the Word add-in?

    Any help would be appreciated.
  • Dave: They're in the Cite -> Styles pane of the Zotero preferences. They've never been in the Document Preferences window. (Those dialogs both just have style lists.) If you don't see them, start a new thread.

    Dan,

That cleared up all my confusion. I was also wondering how to reinstall the Word add-in. Now I see from your reference to Zotero Cite preferences I can do that there too.

Thanks so much for your quick response and solution!! I was going around in circles for hours.

    Dave
