Why does single quotation gets additional spacing

E.g. in Zotero a conference is called:

"IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '09)"

When it lands in Word 2010, it is called:

"IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA ’09)"

The type of single quote has changed (rounded instead of straight) and there are two spaces between ETFA and ’, even though Zotero only has one.

How can I fix this? Removing all spaces in Zotero only leads to zero spaces in Word...

Thanks
  • this is a bug in the citation processor, which is overzealous in its attempt to handle quotes
fbennett will have to take a look, I don't think you'll currently be able to fix this on your end.
  • Now fixed in the processor. You can test the changes by installing the processor patch plugin (in Zotero for Firefox only). The only effect of the plugin is to swap in the latest version of the CSL processor. The plugin can (and should) be removed at the next Zotero upgrade.
  • looks good now. It still switches the straight (') to the curly apostrophe (´), but that's preferred typography anyway, so I don't think that's a problem.

Thanks, that was kind of quick. Regardless, I might just create a script to change all (') into (´)s. Under Win 8.1 Preview x64 I can't get Firefox to connect with Word 2010, so I had to use the Zotero Standalone, for which the patch doesn't work... :-)
  • If you can wait a week or two, it looks like a 4.0.13 release is imminent. When it comes out, this should be fixed in both Zotero for Firefox and Standalone.

    great, thanks

I will install Win 8.1 x64 final, maybe the Firefox-Word-Connector will then works again.
