shuffle item list

hello, I would like to request the ability to shuffle items by title alphabet.
eg.
1.human interest in ....
2.abiding law in human......
3.minding the thruth....

not a to z or the other way around.
  • not sure what you mean by "title alphabet"? Do you just mean random order or something else that I'm missing from your example?
  • by a to z
    eg.

    1.Abiding law in human......
    2.Human interest in ....
    3.Minding the thruth....

    yes to random order
  • But do you mean by random order, or by the user dragging items around into a desired order? The former certainly isn't going to happen. The latter probably won't happen, though in the past there's been talk of adding outlining features, which would require it at least in special "outline" collections.
  • i have read somewhere in this forum a request to add column for attachment of size. i vouch for that then.

    thanks for your reply.
  • column for attachment of size
Do you mean attachment size on disk? e.g. 1 MB? Can you link to the thread you are talking about?
  • Attachment File Size. check this one out.

  • i would like to have random orders of items control within zotero. Right now I can achieved this random order just before entering my pdf collection into zotero by sorting it first by size using windows explorer then import it.
  • Here you seem to imply that you want to sort by file size, not randomly. And what would "random sorting" mean (as Dan was asking)? Do you expect Zotero to automatically arrange items in random order?? That wouldn't be of any help.

On the other hand, what has been requested before is arranging items manually in whatever order the user desires. The problem with that is that, imagine you spend 20 minutes arranging your items, now you decide that you want to quickly sort by name. Your arrangement is permanently gone and you get frustrated. Do you expect a way to go back to your arranged order?
  • I think you deal with that how iTunes does, with an extra numbered column in playlists that's unique to that playlist. So you can change the sort order but click back on the numbered column to sort by that.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure what asbu is asking for isn't that and isn't going to happen, so we can discuss user-determined order elsewhere.
