How to install Standalone on the GNU/Linux distro called Trisquel

Can anyone recommend how to install Zotero Standalone on the GNU/Linux distribution Trisquel (an OS based on Ubuntu)? Unfortunately Zotero is not available through this operating system's normal Add/Remove Programs utility.

    depending on how close to ubuntu this is, you may be able to use the unofficial PPA or installer

    more generally, Zotero runs on linux simply by downloading, extracting and running ./zotero from the download directory

    This does work, thanks a lot.

    But the ideal situation for most people using GNU/Linux distributions would be for Zotero to be made part of the repositories for these operating systems. I am told by people who know much more than me about this that the easiest way would be for Zotero to be added to the Debian repository. Then Ubuntu will automatically grab it, and then so will Trisquel (which is based on Ubuntu). Having Zotero in these repos has all sorts of additional benefits for a user, but I won't go into that.

    I understand that it is necessary for someone to be able and willing to take over maintenance of the package and manage it on an ongoing basis. (Unfortunately I don't have the needed skills).

    The package (maintained by a 3rd party) is already in Debian unstable and should be in (or make it into) the Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) repositories.

    Not sure when Trisquel versions come out and which repositories they use, you have to find that out there.

    I installed it on Lubuntu 13.04. The only way to start the standalone version turned out to be "sh /usr/bin/zotero"
