Can't install Zotero Connector on Chrome

I've failed to install Chrome's extension for Zotero Connector on my MacBook Pro with Zotero stand-alone. With each attempt (including refreshing the page, restarting Zotero Stand-Alone and refreshing the page, restarting Chrome et al. with all other Chrome extensions disabled) the connector fails to load and I get the following message:

An error has occurred
There was a problem adding the item to Chrome. Please
refresh the page and try again.
RELOAD CLOSE

My Chrome version is: 22.0.1229.39 beta
My OS version is: 10.7.5
My Zotero Stand-Alone version is: 4.0.11

Thanks for any ideas!

    you're running a super-outdated Chrome version (and in beta at that?) Current Chrome is 30.x. Update your browser

    Wow, that's weird. Why does "About Google Chrome" say, "Google Chrome is up to date"? The computer world is so much fun.

    I'll download and install Chrome from scratch. Thanks!
