Zotero crashing in 64 bit Debian (gnome)

Everytime I open Zotero standalone, my application crashes saying there was an error within a few sec or any other actions within the application. I reported the error under the ID 757781407. This has been going on for a while. I have tried building the application from source on my system but the resulting bid also gives me the same problem.
  • What kind of crash, exactly? A Zotero error in the middle pane, or is the Standalone application itself closing?

    1) Try disabling the third-party Zotero extension you have installed.

    2) Try disabling auto-syncing in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences. If you can't get to the prefs in time, you may need to edit the prefs.js file in your Standalone profile directory (one directory up from the default data directory path) in a text editor, adding this line:

    user_pref("extensions.zotero.sync.autoSync", false);
  • A Zotero error in the middle pane.

    I tried disabling and removing the Zotero extension AND disabling autosync. It did delay the error by a bit but it happened soon enough.

    Another piece of info: I used to have a 32-bit debian (it is a work machine) and Zotero worked perfectly on that. Since the machine has been upgraded to a 64-bit debian OS. I had to install zotero anew but used the same settings and database directory. Is this a problem? Do I need to setup my library a fresh on the 64-bit version?

    Thanks for your prompt help Dan.
  • It could be the pdf2text and pdfinfo binaries in your data directory. Delete them and reinstall via Preferences -> Search
