Can't move citation without creating a double in another folder

I would like to organize my folders, so have been trying to move citations from one folder to another. Zotero always creates a duplicate, then when I try to delete teh duplicate, both of the copies are deleted.

Any advice?

Thanks!
  • Read through this to understand how collections work and how they differ from folders:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/collections_and_tags#collections
It's currently not possible to "move" items from one collection to the other - an item will always remain in the original collections (it is _not_ duplicated, though - it's still the same item, just in two different places) - but if you just press delete with an item selected in a collection it will be removed from that collection, not deleted.
  • So how could I just have one citation in one single place? Is that possible?
  • If you move it from collection A to collection B and then remove it from collection A it will only be in collection B.
    Does that answer the question?
  • This methodology is an insane increase in workload if you have ~600 citations that need organising. Is there no possibility of getting an option to:

    1) move an item from collection A to collection B

    or alternatively

    2) duplicate an item from collection A to collection B

    cheers!
  • ps not actually "insane". more specifically approximately (at a mininimum) twice the amount of work without the "move" feature
  • Thanks for the heads-up aurimas. It is appreciated:) Do you know roughly when 4.1 will be released?
  • not super soon, unfortunately. Will probably get a relatively long beta phase, too.
  • no worries. cheers for the info.
