Database Version Error

Hello,

I am geeting a Database version error. The plugin version for Firefox is 4.0.12 but I have standalone version 4.0.11. I followed the directions here: http://zotero.org/support/kb/newer_db_version but nothing seems to be working. Please help.

Thanks
  • Have you used Multilingual Zotero (MLZ) previously?
  • I don't think so but is there a way to check?
  • If you don't think so, then you have not.

What's the exact error you are getting? See if you can submit a Report ID
  • This is the message I'm getting:

This version of Zotero is older than the version last used with your database. Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org.

    Current version: 4.0.12
  • No cannot submit a Report ID. I'm stuck!
  • In Firefox, generate real-time debug output for the startup, save it to a text file, and email it support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.

Actually, easier than that: in Firefox, if you go to the Tools menu (or the main menu on some version of Windows) -> Web Developer -> Error Console or Browser Console, you should see a message along the lines of "Zotero ... DB version ... is newer than SQL file ...". Right-click on that, copy it, and paste it here.
  • Thanks for the detailed instructions but I don't see that message. I get History.getState is not a function from zotero. I did a printscreen but cannot see anything similar to the message.
  • OK, try the real-time debug output, then.
  • What you sent still isn't the debug output we're looking for — are you sure you enabled the extensions.zotero.debug.log preference? — but it's sort of irrelevant. If you're getting this error, you almost certainly installed MLZ, so you're at the mercy of fbennett from here on out.
  • Is there anyway to remove the MLZ version? I don't understand how I could have download that version: I used the download on the home page. I tried uninstalling the program but each time I reinstall it, it is the same problem. Basically, is there anyway I can use Zotero?

Thank you for taking the time to help! It is much appreciated!
  • See http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#restoring_from_the_last_upgrade_backup Though if you have never installed MLZ, it would be helpful to figure out what happened. So before following the instructions in that link, if you could try again to carefully follow the directions here that would be great.
  • do you have a Zotero database that you still need/want to use?
    That would make things harder.

If not, you can just delete (or copy to a different location) the zotero data folder http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data (make sure Firefox is closed while you do this) and you'll start with a fresh and empty zotero when you restart Firefox.

From the discussion, I assume that MLZ was never installed on SH2013's system.

I'll sit on the sidelines for the debugging. If there is some way I can help, give me a shout.
