Error 1233827770

I tried to import an item using the RIS ability. I clicked on the file I downloaded containing the info as I always do, and Zotero asked if I wanted to create a new collection. I said yes and then I got the error.
  • Can you post the RIS file on a website like http://gist.github.com and link to it here?

Also, are you aware of the URL bar icon for importing? http://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library#web_translators This will usually get you much better results than downloading RIS files and importing them into Zotero.
  • I do use the Chrome URL bar icon when possible, but there are often times when people post items only as URLS and without a referencing page, the PDF itself often does not trigger the URL extension in Chrome. So then I have to go to Google Scholar and use the CITE -> Refworks option below the item listing in Scholar.

The second time I tried the import it worked fine so it may have been a weird momentary glitch? I tried to post the RIS file on Github but not being that familiar with GIThub, I couldn't figure out how to upload the file?
  • If you have the PDF on hand, you can drag it into Zotero and either (A) right-click "Retrieve Metadata", (B) find it on google scholar, use the URL bar icon to import one of the search results (which does what you do automatically), and then drag the PDF onto the newly created item to attach, (C) right-click "Create parent item" and enter info manually (last resort).

If you managed to import then, yes, this was a temporary glitch and you don't need to post the file (also RIS files from Google Scholar are likely correct). However, to post to http://gist.github.com you would open up the RIS file in any text editor (RIS files are text files) and paste the contents on the site.
  • Thanks Aurimas I appreciate your input. Just as an finishing note, I have found that are often times when using the import PDF and retrieve meta data features result in the item retrieving the wrong article info (frequently wrong item is from biomedical work hmm...) or it retrieves nothing at all. But yes lets' consider this issue closed. Thanks again.

Not being able to retrieve anything at all is acceptable. Sometimes this happens if there is no OCR'ed text in the PDF (i.e. PDF is a scanner image of a document), so Zotero cannot do anything about it.

If you find PDFs that retrieve incorrect metadata, we would definitely want to know about this so that we can tweak the algorithm to prevent such things happening in the future.

Feel free to start another thread about this issue.
