Bulk importing from bibus

Hello all,

I am a very new user of Zotero, having finally left bibus owing to its incompatibility with recent versions of LibreOffice and generally little maintenance.

My first question is how I might go about importing my reference library from bibus. I have over one thousand references so it is worth my time getting this to work as automatically as possible. My references include URLs (mostly to local PDF files), tags and keys (equivalent to 'Collections' in Zotero terminology).

I've tried using basic bibliographic formats like Bibtex, which works fine but loses a lot of that structured information. The Zotero RDF file looks like it would work, but the format seems quite complicated.

At a technical level it doesn't seem too hard. It's easy to write an export filter for bibus, or simply to extract the data directly from bibus' sqlite file. Or maybe it would make sense to write an import filter for Zotero.

Anyway I'd be interested in any words of advice from someone more knowledgeable than myself.

Thanks!
  • getting collections imported into Zotero is rather tricky - Zotero RDF is indeed the only import format that creates collections. You should be able to import tags from bibtex, though, as a "keywords" field, with individual tags comma separated.
I think you'll likely be best off by also exporting keys to keywords and then recreating the collections manually (after filtering by the respective tags).
