User defined reference type

Hi all,

I am new to Zotero so my apologizes if this topic is covered somewhere else (and I am sure it does), but is there any way to create a new reference type, or at least to modify one of the existing types?

Eg, what should I do to have the Author's birthdate in my references?

    This is not possible. If you have a custom field in the citation, how would Zotero know what to do with that field when generating the list of references.

    What kind of use case do you have for this functionality?

    Thank you for your answer. Indeed, that field would be useless when generating a bibliography, but that would help me organize/tag all my data (with eg. a "contact" document type) within the same software.

    Couldn't use just use tags instead?
