Can't install word processor plugin for OpenOffice on Mac

Hi,

I've just installed Zotero standalone and Safari connector, and I can't figure out how to install the word processor plugin for OpenOffice.

If I go to Zotero standalone > Preferences > Cite > Word Processors, it says add-in is not currently installed. Nothing happens when I click Install LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org/NeoOffice Add-in...

(On the other hand if press Install Microsoft Word Add-in then I get an error, obviously, saying no Microsoft Word installation is detected on my computer)

All my software is up to date.

Can anyone advise?

Best,

L
  • Can you provide a Report ID after trying to install it?
  • Aha,

Yes "Report errors..." starts off grey when I open Zotero standalone.

After I try to press "Install ... Add-in" and nothing happens, "Report errors..." becomes black and gives:

[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: col.value is null" {file: "chrome://global/content/bindings/tree.xml" line: 1153}]

[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: temp is null" {file: "chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml" line: 1175}]
  • Have you tried a second time after restarting Zotero?
  • Yes. I've also tried to restart my machine, to no avail
  • Report ID: 1115786840
  • Any update on this? I am having the same issue, nothing happens when I click 'Install LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org/NeoOffice Add-in' under my standalone preferences. Help!
  • Hi,
Just to keep this discussion alive, because I am experiencing the same problem. I'm aware that there were issues with the new OpenOffice version 4.0, but thought it was fixed?
Suggestions, fixes and solutions much appreciated!
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    A.
  • Hello,

Just chiming in to say that I'm helping a user who's having the same problem with Safari + Open Office.

Any ideas what we can do to remedy this? Thanks!
  • similar looking errors can be quite distinct. We need the complete set of information: Which version numbers, what exactly are you seeing/not seeing, can you provide an error report ID after install (from Zotero Standalone, not from Safari) if so, please do so.
  • The user isn't here at this point, so I don't have a report ID. She was using:
    Safari 5.1.2
    Open Office 4
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    Zotero Standalone 4.0.11

We went into the preferences menu in the Standalone, clicked on the "Cite" tab, clicked on the button that reads "Install LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org/NeoOffice Add-in," and then nothing seemed to happen. We didn't get any further install prompts or pop-ups, and there was no change in the appearance of her Open Office menus/toolbars. We tried doing this with Open Office open, and again with the program closed (she'd quit it entirely), we also restarted her machine, and tried downloading the plug-in again from the Zotero plug-in page.

    Thank you for your help.
  • yeah, the error report ID after trying to install this would be crucial.
  • This is happening to me. How can I get the error report?
  • Hi !

Same problem, I tried to install the OpenOffice extension from the Zotero standalone (Preferences/Cite > Install extension), nothing happened. I also tried to install the plug-in for Firefox (Word for Mac Plugin 3.5.7), nothing happened neither.

Here is the report ID from Zotero :

    "@[install:install.m:148]' when calling method: [nsIRunnable::run]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "JS frame :: resource://zotero-macword-integration/installer.jsm :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 67" data: no]" {file: "resource://zotero-macword-integration/installer.jsm" line: 67}]

[JavaScript Error: "Root node doesn't exist for 'discover' view" {file: "chrome://mozapps/content/extensions/extensions.js" line: 622}]"

    My infos:

    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    Firefox 16.0.2
    OpenOffice 4.0.1
    Zotero 3.0.8.1

    Thanks for your help !
  • You're running outdated versions of both Firefox and Zotero and the current version of Zotero won't work for OSX below 10.6.3. Unfortunately we can't troubleshoot old versions, there have been numerous bugfixes since 3.0.8 which is more than a year old.
(It's also generally very much not recommended to use outdated browsers - you are exposing yourself and others to security risks).
  • I was working with libreoffice 5 and zotero perfectly. since several weeks ago zotero doesn't respond when I call it from OpenOffice. Can somebody help me?
    thanks
