Zotero website vs. computer-based Zotero

Dear all,

Is it possible to provide a bibliography online (private group) but at the same time not to allow members to synchronise with their own Zotero plugin/standalone?

Thank you!

  • This would be possible in an public group with closed membership. For a private group, you can prevent editing, but you cannot prevent viewing of the library in the client (so still sync'ed). What is the use case for this?
  • You can do this with a public, closed group - everyone will see it, only members can sync it - but not with a private group, no.
Members can always sync a group (though you can set it up so they won't be able to change anything in the group).
  • Thanks! I guess public group with closed membership is what I need then. But is it a default feature or should I change the settings?

    Sorry, not very clear :-(
I meant: is 'no sync' a default feature of 'public with closed membership' libraries? Or do I need to change some settings?
  • only members will ever be able to sync with a group (regardless of group type), so the inability of non-members to sync is the default (and only) setting for public, closed membership groups, yes.
