Columbia University - No save icon for individual library records

Hello,

I am unable to save individual library records in Columbia's catalog, CLIO. For example, when I go to the following record, no icon at all appears in the address bar:

http://clio.columbia.edu/catalog/256883

Yet if I go to the page where this record appears as a search result, I get the book icon and can save:

http://clio.columbia.edu/catalog?q=novel+romance+ioan&id=480362&search_field=all_fields&commit=Search

Meanwhile, when I go to the record for the same book on WorldCat, I have no problem saving it via the book icon. I also have no problem getting an icon on sites such as NYT and Amazon--it seems to be specific to individual records on Columbia's catalog.

This is a new problem for me--I have saved many books from individual records on CLIO--only today, it doesn't seem to work. I am using OSX 10.8.4, Firefox 23.0.1, and Zotero 4.0.12 for Firefox. I also have Standalone but have it closed.

I have tried everything indicated in the "Troubleshooting Issues with Zotero Translators" page.

Thanks for your help.
Michael
  • We can look at adding better support for CLIO - though that will take a fair amount of time - but the reason this isn't working currently is on the Columbia side of things: For the book on the search result page, there is metadata (COinS) embedded on the page, which Zotero detects and imports. Not so for the individual item (http://clio.columbia.edu/catalog/256883 ). Try to get in touch with a Columbia librarian and ask them to add COinS (back) to that page. Point them here for any questions they may have, we're happy to help and also happy to work with them on implementing something richer than COinS (which is a limited data format).
  • Thanks for the quick response and clear explanation. I will get in touch with a librarian and see what they can do.
  • I also use CLIO, and until two days ago it worked perfectly with Zotero for Firefox. After I upgraded to Firefox 23 from 22 this weekend, the address bar icon disappeared, and the folder icon stopped working properly: I can save records from the folder icon, but the information is not parsed correctly (e.g. the publisher/place/date information appears with extra punctuation in Zotero, or it is all in one field). Same thing with the "export" feature available from CLIO's individual entries; it exports the citation to Zotero but the information does not go into the right fields, so it's basically the same amount of work as adding it manually.

Could this be a Firefox problem, rather than a CLIO one? I've only had this issue after upgrading the browser, and I don't think anything about the catalog has changed in the past few days. Any insight would be greatly appreciated--thanks so much!
  • I have this working again in CLIO. Could you confirm?
The offer to work with Columbia staff to get better import quality still stands, if either of you has a libary contact please do point them here.
