Clean-up author list

I would like to clean up my author list. For example, now I can have four papers by the same author, listed as "Smith, S A", "Smith, S.A.", "Smith, S. A." and "Smith, Scarlett A.". I would like to normalize them all to the "best" version, i.e. "Smith, Scarlett A." Mendeley has a very good implementation of this: All authors can be shown in a list (the filter at the bottom left, which is another neat feature by the way), and names can be dragged onto other names to merge one into the other (so that all author records with the name you drag are updated to the name you drag to).

The only way this could be better than Mendeley is if the application itself would suggest "duplicate authors", and possibly show a few papers from "each" (or each "version" of the name) to enable you to make a quick and qualified judgement.

This could also be done for other fields than the author, such as journal, abbreviated journal, and tags.
