Error: 826603609

I am sorry, but I have perhaps messed it up again. I was demonstrating some features on Zotero on my university machine. I logged in as lykkja, and then after logged in as jarmilabm, another user. When we clicked on the Sync icon, it was some conflicts. Hope some of you can help us so that we dont mix our libraries with eachother.
  • It should have warned you that you were syncing with another account and that it would merge the two libraries. Did it?

I'm not totally clear what the issue you're experiencing now is, though. Are you getting an error message (if so, what?) or is the issue that jarmilabm now has your data in their library?

Assuming it's the latter, first, disable auto-sync in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences, make sure you have the correct username entered in, and make a backup of your Zotero data directory.

Next, check the server data for each account first to see their current states. If a server account is correct, you can use Restore from Zotero Server from the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero prefs without restoring from a backup.

If the server data is wrong, you can restore your local database to the desired state by restoring from a backup of some sort, including one of the automatic backups, and then use Restore to Zotero Server to correct the server data.
  • "It should have warned you that you were syncing with another account and that it would merge the two libraries. Did it?"

Yes, but I was not thinking about that we where logged into my account and that was the reason for the warning. I misunderstood and thought that it was just a reminder that we had changed account and that old data in the local web storage would empty, and that the data from the other persons account would take the place instead.

"I'm not totally clear what the issue you're experiencing now is, though. Are you getting an error message (if so, what?) or is the issue that jarmilabm now has your data in their library? "

I got an error that it was conflicts with syncing that I had to resolve. I clicked ok four times to resolve conflicts, but it was still an error. Did not want to continue so I sendt the error Message to forum and asked for advice. jarmilabm got data the first time, but it was easy to sort on date added and deleted. Everything looks ok with jarmilabm Library right now. Mine is just for demonstration and some unimportant reading lists.

"Assuming it's the latter, first, disable auto-sync in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences, make sure you have the correct username entered in, and make a backup of your Zotero data directory."

    I will do that.

"Next, check the server data for each account first to see their current states. If a server account is correct, you can use Restore from Zotero Server from the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero prefs without restoring from a backup."

    OK.

"If the server data is wrong, you can restore your local database to the desired state by restoring from a backup of some sort, including one of the automatic backups, and then use Restore to Zotero Server to correct the server data."

OK. I believe you think about the backup system in the operative system or university backup systems. Or perhaps zotero.sqlite.bak ?

    Thank you!
  • OK. I believe you think about the backup system in the operative system or university backup systems. Or perhaps zotero.sqlite.bak ?
Depends what you have. zotero.sqlite.bak or zotero.sqlite.1.bak might be sufficient. Check the timestamps on the files to see when they're from and whether you'd lose data going with those (and whether they're early enough).
  • I think we have solved the problem. I made a backup first, and then I manually deleted items that was recently added when the databases was mixed that was not mine. Then I synced without experiencing any database conflict. I did not try the "restore" function. Also jarmilabm made backup and has no longer any database conflicts. We have not lost any data. Thank you for fast and very good help!
