OK, back to book problems. I'm trying to cite a book chapter (book section).
This is how it's coming out:
Smith, M. H., R. H. Gardner, J. B. Gentry, D. W. Kaufman, and M. O’FARRELL. 1975. Density estimations of small mammal populations. Small mammals: their productivity and population dynamics. Cambridge University Press, London 25–54.
obviously not correct. The frustrating part is I've downloaded and edited book sections so they cite correctly in the past. Here's a screenshot of what the input information looks like in zotero. I see no difference between this and other book sections (which will cite properly).
If you get that citation you're not using the item from the screenshot. Note how "Cambridge University Press" is nowhere in the data for the book section you show - there is no way it could be in the citation even if there was something wrong with the citation style.
I don't know which I'm more impressed with, your promptness or how you can make me feel so dumb(I say the last one in jest).
You were right, I had data for two different citations, both for smith et al 1975. I deleted the incorrect one and just recited the correct one. Problem solved.
I just found out that Zotero does not correctly order the same author. For instance, it should be:
Hamlin, K. L. 1997. Survival and home range fidelity of coyotes in Montana: implications for control. Intermountain Journal of Sciences 3:62–72.
Hamlin, K. L., S. J. Riley, D. Pyrah, A. R. Dood, and R. J. Mackie. 1984. Relationships among mule deer fawn mortality, coyotes, and alternate prey species during summer. Journal of Wildlife Management 48:489–499.
but zotero wants to do this:
Hamlin, K. L., S. J. Riley, D. Pyrah, A. R. Dood, and R. J. Mackie. 1984. Relationships among mule deer fawn mortality, coyotes, and alternate prey species during summer. Journal of Wildlife Management 48:489–499.
Hamlin, K. L. 1997. Survival and home range fidelity of coyotes in Montana: implications for control. Intermountain Journal of Sciences 3:62–72.
The Journal of Wildlife Management style will always sort single-author publication before multi-author publications by the same first author, regardless of date - i.e. it will do what you say it should.
Best guess for why it doesn't may be that you have Hamlin's first names input differently, so Zotero reads them as different authors.
