Zotero database is incomplete

We have created my library on different computers. Now I discover that from the Firefox Zotero the list of collections and books is not complete. However, when I log on from the web portal and actually see what is in the "cloud" to my happy surprise I find that the collections and books that were missing are actually there. However, there is not the option to manipulate and to export the data off that interface that one has with the Zotero installed into Firefox.

In reading the documentation I suspect that the datafile on my computer is not complete, and that for whatever reason it does not sync totally to update with the data in the cloud.

Can you suggest a fix that would incorporate all of my collections and books on all the computers that I use?

  • This was a very good starting place, but the issue is not resolved here.

First, I can substantiate that there are multiple titles and collections that appear when I log into Zotero from the website and read the items uploaded to your servers, but these files do not appear anywhere at all on the Firefox Zotero--either in the root library nor in any of the collections. So, unfortunately I am not "looking in the wrong place."

Second, the green icon with its circular arrow for sync function has been activated multiple times. The sync function has been completed with no red markers. So the sync function thinks it has done its job even though there are lots of books on your servers that do not appear on my list in Zotero Firefox.

I suspect you have a next step to suggest and I would be happy to look with you at how to troubleshoot the issue.

  • There's still a good chance you're overlooking something. I'm not aware of a single confirmed case of an incomplete sync going through without error message, so this is highly unlikely (though of course never impossible). So do double-check places where you may be missing things, including checking the contents of your Zotero Trash (locally) and make sure that you're in fact syncing to the same username that you're checking online.
Then, provide a debug ID for a full, manually triggered sync:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output
(i.e. enable debug, click the green arrow icon, wait until it stops, then send the debug output & post the ID here).
  • your servers
(And just as a heads-up, some people helping you (e.g., adamsmith) may be volunteers who aren't officially affiliated with Zotero, so "your" isn't the appropriate word here.)

Is it possible that you have both the Zotero Standalone version and the FireFox Plugin on your machine and each has its own library. The default is to share one library but it would be worth checking on the location of your library in each Zotero version. Especially if you have both Zotero versions, make sure that you don't have two different Zotero accounts that you use for syncing.
  • I'm pretty sure the issue is two separate accounts, as explained on the page adamsmith originally linked to. Other than a single sync today, the account you're logged into here hasn't synced since last November. There's another user account with the same name as the group that you're an admin of, and that other account is the owner of the group.
