Saving refs from Google Scholar when Standalone openned
Hi all,
since a few days I have quite an issue with Zotero :
When standalone is closed, no problem, I make a research on google scholar, I click on the icon in the adress bar, I check the references I want to save and it's going in Zotero.
When standalone is openned (I need to open it at least to chose which library I want the references to be saved in), on the same page : if I click on the icon to save, it fails. And if i reload the google scholar page the icone in the adress bar doesn't appear. And when I just open Firefox and make my research when standalone is openned, it does the same thing : no icon in the adress bar... And it is doing the exact same thing on other sites than scholar, directly on the sites of the journal etc.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks
Alain

When the firefox plugin for Zotero standalone is activated, I have the Z at the bottom of my firefow window, and when I click on it it opens a Zotero in my firefow the way it was before Zotero stand alone. When this is openned, all works great. But that's not what i want.
When this is openned or closed but Zotero standalone openned, the links in the adress bar do not work anymore (saving doesn't work on pages already displayed, and in new firefow tabs or windows, there is no link in the adress bar exactly as if the plusgin was not installed)
Hope I'm clearer this time.
the Zotero Firefox plugin is 4.0.9
and Zotero standalone is 4.0.8.
A question that rises : is it normal that when I clic on the Z icon at the bottom of Firefox it opens a window in my firefox window as if Zotero for Firefow was insalled on my computer? Because I can't find a way to unistall Zotero for Firefox so I think it is not installed but maybe it is installed and this is causing problems.
Thanks for helping me
It should only open when you click on the Z icon when Zotero for Standalone is _not_ open. If Zotero for Firefox _does_ open while you're running Standalone, you would seem to have set them to two separate data directories - check the library of your Zotero for Firefox and see if the items get downloaded there.
But the problem's stille there. I'm gonna try to unistall completly zotero standalone and firefox addon... see what happens.
all the same...
Are you behind a proxy? What's the url exactly as you see it? If you are, try accessing Google scholar without proxy.
If it doesn't help, try the following:
1.Close Zotero Standalone (ZSA). Open Firefox and click on the Zotero icon. When the Zotero pane shows up, go to Preferences -> General. Click the Update Now button. (Don't close the preference window)
2. Go to a Google scholar page and search for whatever you were searching for before. (Don't import anything yet)
3. In the preference window, go to advanced and enable debug logging. Leave the preference window open.
4. Close the Zotero pane in Firefox.
5. Open ZSA. Perform steps 1 (the Update Now part) and 3 in ZSA. Also leave the preference window open.
6. Now, in Firefox, on the Google scholar page you navigated to, attempt to import an article. When (if) it fails, switch to each preference window (ZSA and Firefox) and submit the debug log to Zotero's servers. Post the debug IDs here.
first : I'm not using any proxy.
second : seems you had a good idea in mind since when I close ZSA, open the Firefox Zotero pane, go to preference and try tu update, it's changing the update now button into a error button. Just after that I activated the debug logging and clicked on the error button. Here is the report : D1805404844

There's a problem in your Zotero data directory that's preventing style (and probably translator) updates from working. If you're running security software, try temporarily disabling it. Otherwise, check permissions in your data directory to make sure your user account has access to it. (In this case, the issue is specifically the 'styles' directory, but there's a good chance there's a more general problem.)
my Zotero data directory was in "read only" mode. I put the whole directory in normal mode : it fixes the issue with the update.
So I made the things you mentioned in the post and here it is the debug file : D192903148
When I close the Zotero pane in Firefox, it closes the preference window. So I only have the bug report from ZSA.
