Proquest Chrome Translator Problem

Good afternoon,

I'm using the Chrome extension (on a Mac) with Proquest. The "Saving to..." box in the lower right of the screen appears as normal on when using the extension on this site, however after 15 seconds or so it gives me a translation error:

"An error occurred while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information."

None of the issues on the Known Translator Issues page deal with Proquest.

I used logging in the Chrome Extension to submit the output of what is going on. DebugID: D1110840375

I'm not sure if this is at all related, but last week I reported problems with importing RIS files that I'd gotten from Proquest: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/30891/errors-with-importing/

Thanks in advance for your help!
  • is that the case for individual items, too, or just search results?
  • Hi Adam,

Good question! For individual items the translator seems to work just fine. The search results are where the problem occurred.

Also, something I tested out was trying to use the translator on the search results (which would fail) and then trying the individual items. When I tried it in this order the individual result gave me a "type in the following two words to continue to the article" human verification check. Even after the verification check the translation would still fail on the search results.

Is it possible that the translator is failing on the search results because Proquest won't let me pull that much information from their site all at once?
  • yep, that'd be it, nothing we can do then and you're stuck with using RIS export for mass-export/import operations. Thanks for helping to figure this out.
  • added to known issues:

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks for the confirmation.

The only problem I have now is that the imports still aren't working reliably. Even after reinstalling Zotero last week RIF and even RDF files are still not importing consistently.

Let me know if you want me to start another import thread for this.
  • no, stick with your old thread for that.
