Chicago style: Ibid. on pages with endnotes and footnotes
On pages with both footnotes and endnotes (footnotes for substantive information, source citations and endnotes for additional commentary) with different numbering systems (footnotes i, ii, etc, endnotes numerical -- all CSM recommendations), there is a mistake in the Ibid. function in Zotero. (checked with the folks at Chicago Style).
When there are endnotes between footnotes, Zotero repeats citation information rather than using the Ibid. for the repeated source. However, even if the endnote is referring to a different source, the footnote should use Ibid..
Has anyone figured a way to work around this/fix this?
Thanks.

REsponse:
Ibid. is commonly used when there are both footnotes and endnotes. The two sets of notes are obviously separate, and readers will not be confused.

SITUATION I am writing a dissertation and using footnotes for substantive comments (citations) and endnotes for further commentary (as recommended in CS). Often, the endnotes will also contain citations.
QUESTION: When there are footnotes and endnotes referenced on the same page, should Ibid. be used in the footnotes? (The endnotes are referencing other texts, while the footnotes are all referencing the same text?)
The footnotes and the endnotes have a different numbering system (endnotes are numbered and the footnotes use the i, iii, etc. numbering system). It seems that using no Ibids on such pages would prevent confusion, especially for the diligent reader who is reading the endnotes as they are referenced, then returning to the page. At the same time, they do have different numbering systems which distinguishes them and keeps the reference fields separate?
So: no Ibid or Ibid?
Thank you

Frank would have to say whether that's even possible.
