Files in Standalone to Zotero for firefox

After I updated my firefox last time from version 19, zoterostandalone couldn't appear in the address URL. Because of this problem, I couldn't save the files by clicking the icon from the URL as usual and I start to save it in other ways which takes longtime to save the files. So, I decided to download zotero for firefox 4.0 today. How do I import files from the standalone to this version of zotero and to mycomputer as well? Please advise. I appreciate for any help in this matter.
  • Zotero Standalone allows you to browse your Zotero library, make edits, use your library with a word processor plugin to cite while you write. The one thing it cannot do on its own is interact with your browser (i.e. there is no URL bar icon). In order to get a URL bar icon when using Zotero Standalone, you need a Connector for your browser of choice: Chrome, Safari, Opera, or Firefox.

Firefox is a special case. The Firefox addon can act as a connector for Zotero Standalone or it can be a full-featured Zotero client on its own.

In order for Zotero Firefox add-on to work together with Zotero Standalone, the two of them must share the same data directory. When you install Zotero for Firefox after installing Zotero Standalone, it should ask you (the first time you start Firefox) whether you want to share the data directory with Standalone. Either this prompt did not appear for you, or you chose to use separate data directory for Zotero for Firefox. Either way, here is what you should do now:
    1. In Zotero Standalone, open Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders. Under Data Directory Location, click Show Data Directory. Make note of where this directory resides (you can leave the data directory open).

    2. In Zotero for Firefox, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders. Under Data Directory Location, click Choose. Navigate to the data directory you opened above. Click OK. Zotero will tell you that you need to restart Firefox/Zotero for the setting to take effect. Do that.

    3. Now, if you have Zotero Standalone open, Zotero for Firefox acts as browser Connector. It will show you the URL bar icon. If you click on Zotero icon in Firefox (bottom right), it should bring the Zotero Standalone window to front. If you don't have Zotero Standalone open, clicking the Zotero icon in Firefox will open up the Zotero pane in Firefox.
  • (you also need to make sure you run the most recent version of ZOtero - 4.0.8 - in Firefox. That is separate from the Standalone version.
