So not tech savvy! But how do I access my zotero library from my personal laptop?
I really have no idea, but I've enjoyed using zotero on my mac laptop. Its a great referencing software. But how on earth do I get using it while on my computer at work? When I try and sync from my laptop to the server (I assume this is why I can't see my references from the zotero I have downloaded on my work computer) it says the tag is too long. But then when I click to edit it, it won't allow.
Ah, these kind of things overwhelm me and to be honest, spending hours on end learning technical jargon is time consuming for this very non-technological woman. But- I really would love to use this in multiple locations.
Can anyone offer me any advice that I will understand? I have tried searching through the forums, but then I get confused!!
Thankyou! ps. I am somewhat intelligent, just in other areas of life ;-)

Where exactly are you clicking and what exactly happens/doesn't happen?
Understand that we cannot see what you see. Please step back and describe in more detail.
It will likely be helpful if you provide more information about your computer operating systems, the version of Zotero, etc. See:

I thought that I could perhaps edit the tags, separate them with a ; and then split using this ;
But if I go through and add ; it won't let me save it. Only the cancel button is 'on'
Does this make sense?
Thanks for your prompt reply by the way!
Splitting is for when a tag already has delimiters such as semicolons in the middle of it—e.g., if the site included semicolons in a list of tags that Zotero wasn't expecting. If you a character that appears in the long tag, you'll see a list of the tags that would result after splitting on that character.
In Edit mode, you have to actually shorten the tag enough to get it below the length limit (which it shows you) before you can save.
Ok so work PC that I want my files to appear on is OS X version 10.8.1, my laptop is 10.8.4.
Zotero version on both computers is 4.0.8
I opened up zotero via the firefox 'tools' option in the tool bar (the only way I know how) and then I clicked on the little green arrow to 'Sync with Zotero server', a red exclamation mark comes up and says Tag '103437...etc' is too long.
The error Report ID is 1581852336 if that's at all helpful.
If you don't care about the information in the tag, you can just delete it, which is the third option in that wizard.
Also, if the item with this too-long tag came from a website (as opposed to, say, an import that you did from another program), tell us which and we can fix Zotero's translator for that site to properly split it up during saving. (You can find the tag by searching for part of it in your library or by clicking on the tag in the tag selector in the bottom left of Zotero.)
Thank you kindly!!
