Can't download zotero connector for chrome

I've been trying (over the course of several days) to download the zotero connector for google chrome, with no success. Other extensions I can download without a problem. For zotero, the error message is "There was a problem adding the item to Chrome. Please refresh the page and try again." Refreshing is of no use either, however. Anyone with an idea of what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

    which Chrome version?

    Version 21.0.1180.75
    I also tried installing the extension before the standalone and vice versa.

    yeah, that's the problem. Update Chrome. The current release is 28.x, the 21 release is a year old, which is ages for Chrome.

    Thank you! My chrome says it's updated to the latest version, but I guess I'll have to get the IT guys here to correct that since I can't uninstall and reinstall by myself.
