Problem while inserting a reference in open office for mac

Hi,

I am currently a new user of Zotero standalone on Mac/openoffice. The problem I am experiencing is whenever I insert a citation in my document, instead of having the full reference of the document, I only have a number e.g. [1] or [2] which is of course linked up to my Zotero library.

As a new user, this may be a simple setting issue but can't figure out how to get the full reference whenever I insert my citation.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
  • It seems that you are using a numbered style but that you want an author date style.

If I did not understand your question please provide more details.
  • I think DWL is right - click "Insert Bibliography" to get a bibliography that goes along with those numbers or change the citation style.
  • Thank you for your useful reply, I did change the citation style and it worked. It seems therefore that some citation styles (e.g. IEE which was the one I wanted to use)are impossible to have as footnotes on openoffice hence the numbering. These styles can only be used in the final bibliography and/or endnotes.
  • Zotero has many style options. Each of these conforms to the specific needs of writers who need to automate standard ways of citing and bibliography preparation. Have you been assigned to write using a specific bibliographic style?

There are several styles that are included with Zotero but those aren't your only options. More styles are available online.

If you want numbered citations with footnotes on each page that provide bibliographic information, try one of the Chicago Manual of Style Note Styles.
