R Column abstract text box. Line limit alternative?

When I import a journal article and want to make a simple edit to the abstract (remove the word "abstract" or "summary") from the beginning of the text; I must scroll back up to the top to make my changes. It seems that, by default, the cursor is placed at the end of the abstract text. Even when the (...) has been activated to display much of the text, as soon as I place my cursor in the abstract area there is a reduction of the number of lines in the box and the cursor is at the end. I know that I can press the home key and be taken to the top. However, when I have lots of white space available at the bottom of the right column, I find myself wishing that the entire abstract text is visible and not limited to a set number of lines. Is there a setting to expand the number of abstract lines? I couldn't find such a setting in about:config.
  • I don't have an answer to your question (though I suspect it's no), but where are these coming from? We should be able to remove labels like that on import. I don't see how they're fulfilling any function.
  • If you can remove labels upon import would be even better.

See these, each with the redundant label "Abstract summary:"

The labels are supplied by the publisher, in this case Taylor and Francis. I find that almost all publisher sources have this problem for at least some journals.

I may be making much about little. However, I find myself really annoyed about the labels within the abstract text.

    Thanks
  • I think cleaning up data on import is one of Zotero's key comparative advantages & it's the type of thing that code is supposed to do, so I'm always happy to do that (where possible), I'm pretty sure Aurimas agrees. Feel free to post other abstract labels you find here.

Translator Fix for Taylor & Francis is up, as usual auto-update in 24hs or directly via Zotero prefs.
  • Thank you for the update. It will save me frustration, mouse clicks, and maybe my sanity.

I have examined my pdf library and article summaries from SafetyLit. I found the following terms:

    Afrikaans: Opsomming
    Bosnian: Rezime
    Croatian: Sažetak ; Rezime
    Czech: Shrnutí
    Danish: Resumé
    Dutch: Overzicht
    English: Abstract ; Summary
    Estonian: Kokkuvõte
    French: Résumé
    Italian: Riassunto ; Sommario
    German: Zusammenfassung
    Norwegian: Oppsummering
    Polish: Streszczenie
    Portuguese: Resumo
    Romanian: Rezumat
    Slovak: Zhrnutie
    Slovenian: Povzetek
    Spanish: Resumen
    Swedish: Sammanfattning
    Turkish: Özet

    Russian: резюме ; сводка

It just occurred to me that another place to look could be the Transifex records for the Zotero right hand column.

I am so pleased that you also think that it is better not to have the abstract label within the already labeled Zotero abstract text box. Thanks again.
  • (sorry, when I wrote "abstract labels" I meant examples of translators that pull those labels in. We'll want to fix this on a translator-by-translator basis).
  • I understand. I'll provide translator examples over the next few days.
