Syncing between multiple computers

We are working on a group library. One person has made changes to the files on their computer and synced it (it is right on the online library) but when any other person syncs the changes are not visible on their computers. All syncs have been carried out without error but we are worries to make any more changes in case it over writes the changes already made.We are all using the version of Zotero for firefox.

I have read the online helpsheet for this problem but it does not cover the problem we are having.

Many thanks for any help?

"Also check the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences to make sure you're using the same account you're using to log in to zotero.org and the same account you're using on the other computers (or, in the case of a group, the account that's a member of the group)."
  • Thanks. I have done these things and it is still not working. It is showing folders which should have been deleted and my sync preferences are definately right...
  • It is showing certain changes but not others. So a deleted file is still not showing which was done yesterday but new changes carried out today are showing?
  • how about the online version of the library? Changes show up or not?
  • This is the strange thing. Changes did show up on the online version but as we have worked on it today it has reverted again (online and computer) to the pre-modified version but is showing new changes.
  • You appear to have done a full sync earlier this morning, downloading your full server library. Is that something you triggered yourself through Restore from Zotero Server?

If not, have you or other people in the group received conflict resolution windows when syncing?
  • Changes did show up on the online version but as we have worked on it today it has reverted again (online and computer) to the pre-modified version but is showing new changes.
Could you provide a specific example? What kind of changes are we talking about?
  • Thanks for getting back to me.

    This is what has happened:

User A made changes to folders on Wednesday. He filed all of the documents from folder 1 into other folders, removing each item from folder 1 as he did so. He then deleted folder 1 completely. When the rest of the users synced their own computers they could not see these changes. However the Zotero server did show the changes.

Yesterday, User B synced on her computer which still did not show the changes. She added a new folder (folder 2) to which she added new articles. When users C and D checked there computers they could see the changes user B had made but not user A from Wednesday. The server was showing the changes made by both user A and B. Then later in the morning when user B synced she did get a conflict resolution error but one which you could only click ok to. At this point the online server showed folder 2 but had also brought back folder 1 - loosing all the changes done on Wednesday.

I hope this makes sense? What we want to know how to do is to make sure that computers always sync the right way with the online version i.e. when one computer makes changes, it syncs to the server and when each other person then logs on they want to sync the information from the server. We are pretty worried about using it until we know how to do this.

    Many thanks
