Style request: Molecular Plant Microbe Interactions

Hello,

Would it be possible to add the style of the MPMI journal to the Zotero repository?

The MPMI journal (http://apsjournals.apsnet.org/loi/mpmi) is published by APS press along with the journals "Phytopathology" and "Plant Disease". The bibliography format for MPMI seems to be the same as "Phytopathology", but without being numbered (the in-text citation format is different since there is no numbering in MPMI).

Alternatively, I read on the web that the MPMI style is close to the one of the "American Journal of Medical Genetics" (AJMG), which is already available from the repository.

I tested this, and so far I found the following differences:

in bibliography:
* there should be the word "and" before the last author in MPMI (in AJMG: currently nothing)
* there should be a dot after the initials of the authors (currently nothing in AJMG)

Example for MPMI:

Crabill, E., Joe, A., Block, A., van Rooyen, J. M., and Alfano, J. R. 2010. Plant immunity directly or indirectly restricts the injection of type III effectors by the Pseudomonas syringaetype III secretion system. Plant Physiol. 154:233-244.

in text (citation):
* there should be no comma in the citation
example for MPMI:
(Crabill et al. 2010)
(from my tests I see that there is a comma after "et al." in citations for AJMG)

Thank you for your help!
  • I realized that the Zotero repository also contains a style named "American Phytopathological Society". Not surprisingly, this style is likely the best start for the MPMI style (I had poor success at using the "Search by example" function but finally noticed this one)

The difference that I spotted between the two styles so far is:
    * In bibliography, only 6 authors are displayed, then "et al.", where in MPMI style it seems that all authors are displayed.

I'll try to tweak this using the Visual Editor.
  • I have managed to create a .csl file for the MPMI style using the Visual Editor, based on the APS style. This new style is not perfect, for instance for book chapters, but is usable and constitute a basis for future improvements. I managed to use this style in my Word manuscript.

Now I would like to share this .csl file and somehow post it so that someone else could improve it as necessary. I read the indications at https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step#sharing_styles, but I feel that Github and all the stuff is too complex for me.
Is it possible to send it by email to someone from the Zotero team so that it can be checked and added to the repository ? Thanks!

    Thanks adamsmith!

    So it should be there:

What I could not figure out using the Visual editor affects the book chapters. Currently, I get the following:

Tyler, B. M. 2008. Genomics of fungal- and oomycete-soybean interactions. Pages 243–267 in: Genetics and Genomics of Soybean, Plant Genetics and Genomics: Crops and Models, Gary Stacey, ed. Springer New York. Available at: http://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-0-387-72299-3_14 [Accessed June 11, 2013].

Whereas the MPMI style requests (I looked in a published article):

Tyler, B. M. 2008. Genomics of fungal- and oomycete-soybean interactions. Pages 243-267 in: Soybean Genomics. G. Stacey, ed. Springer, New York.

The improvements that remain to do are:
    * write only the initials of the editors instead of full first name
    * add a "," between "Springer" and "New York"
    * remove the URL and date of access (I could not find a wastebin in the Visual Editor to remove that part)
    * replace the "," between book title and editors by a dot "."

    Many thanks again.
  • OK, I'll fix those before putting this up. Might take a little time.

I have made improvements to the MPMI style (correction of a mistake in in-text citations, and improvements suggested above for book chapters, excepted one)

What I could not figure out was how to remove the URL and date of access for book chapters in the bibliography, but this can be done manually in the manuscript!

  • The style is now up. It will show up on the repository within 30mins. It may take up to 24hs for the preview to work.
If you submit corrections or additions to the style in the future, please always work with the most recent copy from the style repository, as we frequently adjust the formatting of styles slightly.

I'd be happy to add you as an author in the style if you give me a name of nickname you want me to use.
