attached pdfs not showing up on local Zotero

I have Zotero installed on both an old Vista desktop and a Windows 7 laptop. A couple of wks ago both local versions stopped displaying pdf attachments. My Word doc attachments show up just fine on the local versions, and the Zotero server has all the pdf attachments. Can you help? I've made sure I'm running most recent version of Zotero. Thanks!

  • best guess it's this:
    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29559/cannot-view-pdf-attachment-in-firefox/#Item_6
follow those steps or use "open in external viewer"
  • Thanks, Adam! Installed both extensions on my laptop (first js, then development version) and pdf viewer now works fine there.

On desktop it's still problematic. I first installed just the development version on the desktop (Vista) and pdf first page only showed up with message "pdf might not be displaying properly". Then I tried opening the pdf in Firefox vs Adobe and it displayed perfectly.

I then tried adding the js extension (non-development) on my desktop version, thinking maybe the laptop version worked because I'd installed both js extension and development version. Now the pdfs don't open at all on my desktop, and I don't see the option of opening it in Firefox.

If this is a bug maybe it will be repaired soon. At least I can open the pdfs on my laptop, though--thanks!

  • again, though - you can use right-click --> Open in External Viewer regardless. This is fixed in Firefox for future versions (it's not a Zotero bug).

You didn't actually install "both" version of the js, you just overwrote one with the other and you did so in reverse order on your Desktop, which is why it doesn't work there are all anymore.
  • Adam, I wondered about that. And you're right--I overwrote the version on my desktop, and the pdfs open just fine! Thanks.
