Zotero not working in Chrome 29.0.1530.2

For the last week or so Zotero (connector 3.0.8.1, standalone 4.08) has been basically unresponsive in Chrome 29. Nothing at all happens when I click "Save Zotero snapshot from current page", nor does the Zotero box appear in the omnibox on pages where it previously appeared, such as http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Nations-Adam-Smith/dp/161382081X/.

I tried disabling and re-enabling the extension, and also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, as well a plain old restart of my Win 7 machine. Nothing so far. I also tried enabling/disabling other extensions, and trying with and without Adblock installed - nada. Strangely, I can't seem to get debug logging to work, either.

However, Zotero seems to be working fine in Firefox 21 (and now 22). I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Andre
  • what happens when you load the amazon page and then go to the extension options to provide an error report ID:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs#provide_a_report_id
  • that said, you're running Chrome on the dev channel. Zotero only makes sure to work in the current stable release, not in beta and dev releases. That's the case for Firefox as well as Chrome.
  • It must be something to do with the dev build. I can't even get debugging to work. I clicked 'Enable logging', then went to Amazon, went back to the options pane, and clicked on both 'submit report' and 'view output', but nothing happens.

Also, I'm not sure if this is expected behaviour, but after clicking 'Enable logging' and closing the Options tab, upon re-opening the Options tab the 'Enable logging' check box is cleared.

Anyway, I guess we can chalk it up to the dev build?
  • but you wouldn't need to enable logging for an error report. That's for debug.
Tools --> Extensions --> Zotero Options
and there should be an error report.
  • Oops, sorry about that!

Still, though, nothing shows up there: "Zotero Connector has not experienced any errors since it was first started."
  • It looks like there's an issue with Zotero and Chrome Canary 29, although it's not yet clear to me whether this is our issue or Google's. We'll make sure this works in time for the official release of Chrome 29, but for now, you should use either the official release or beta version of Chrome.
  • I'm guessing Google - it seems to be messing up much more than Zotero (e.g., pages not rendering properly, video containers disappearing, etc.).

    Regardless, thanks for the help.
  • This is fixed in Zotero Connector 4.0.8, now available.
