Upgrade StorageImport Freezing/Hangups

The back ground to my store is complicated/political, but the short version is:
I am trying to rebuild a group library (to which I have still have view/export access, but not write access), by the following steps:
a) importing the RDF subcollection files into my Personal Library, through Zotero for Firefox.
b) dragging-and-dropping into a new Group Library
Most of the subcollection folders/RDFs are small, but there are a few containing several thousand items. It worked once, but each time I try to do it again, it tends to freeze.
I am betting this is related to just how many items I am putting in the queue each time. However, I'd just like to know whether there is a faster way to do this, or barring that, a timeframe I might expect for a 1MB file importing.
