Keyboard dwell time

Ok, one slick think with Zatero is that when the center list has focus in the GUI, then you can type on the keyboard to goto that part of the list. So the first entry for "Smi" might be "Smith".

I am a hunt and peck typist. (LOL - sad story... )

So by the time I find the third letter the dwell time is exceeded so that instead of "Smith" I end up at "Idele".

Like mouse controls for double click in operating system, I'd like to be able to set the dwell time to say slow, medium, or fast in the preferences.

Well maybe REALLY slow, slow, medium and fast. ;-)
  • Sorry, not going to happen. This is just a function of the list view and not something we're going to reimplement.
  • (It's possible Mozilla's keyboard navigation timeout is configurable in about:config, but I can't check at the moment.)
  • Thanks! I looked, didn't see anything promising.

I should have learned to type better long ago...

Reminds me of when the then governor of Georgia Lester Maddox was being taken to task over the rate for prisoner recidivism. Maddox said "Well, we need a better quality of prisoner."

You just need a better grade of user. :-)
  • If you use a Mac, try the app Typist. I think it is still free. I used it to improve my skills. Now must of my "typing" is done on a tablet. Nonetheless, I recommend Typist. Unlike other typing tutorials, it wasn't annoying at all.
  • I tried a couple of programs, but they don't work. Both of my little fingers are deformed and useless for typing, even on a computer keyboard. So the problem is to figure out how to position eight fingers over keyboard.

I was supposed to take typing in he eight grade on a manual typewriter. No way I told the teacher and held up my hands. After school that day I went to the guidance counselor. I started to explain my problem, and the counselor said, "The typing teacher has already been in to talk to me. How would you like to swap for a study hall?" It was a graded class, and no way was I going to pass, so I opted out.
  • OK, Think I found a solution to this. The Windows operating system has an option for the "repeat deal". By making that longer it seems to give me more time to type the next character.

Weird where you have to look for stuff..

Thanks Adam for the tip on jiggering it in Firefox! Thinking about mouse double click got me looking in the operating system.
