Zotero 1.5 won't boot up with Firefox 3

After downloading Zotero 1.5, it won't install and boot up with Firefox. I get Error Message 401483554: TypeError: oldIDs.map is not a function

I'm now unable to access Zotero at all on my main computer. (Fortunately I backed up my files and am able to do so with the earlier version of Zotero on my laptop.) Is there anything I can do? Can I uninstall Zotero on my main computer and reinstall the earlier version without losing my records?

Trying to go to 1.5 has been a disaster for me.

Bob
  • The Zotero 1.5 Sync Preview is meant for testing, not general use, which is why the instructions say only to use it with a test version of your database.

The "oldIDs.map is not a function" error is a known issue and is fixed on the trunk. You can try the latest trunk build, but it sounds like 1.5 is not what you want to be using quite yet.

Since oldIDs.map is an upgrade error that occurs before your database is upgraded, you should be able to reinstall 1.0.7 over the Sync Preview to go back. After the upgrade, you would not be able to revert to a 1.0 build with the same data.
  • Thanks for your help. I reinstalled 1.0.7 and I'm back to the status quo ante.

I do look forward to being able to synchronize my zotero records for different computers, which was why I was tempted to try out 1.5 a bit prematurely. Ideally, however, I must say that I liked very much the feature in Procite (that I used to use) that allowed me both to save and work off of a single drive on an external campus server. I gather that 1.5 doesn't quite allow that, although the simplicity of that feature was very attractive.

Zotero can be used via a network share, if that's what you mean.
  • Thanks! Somehow I'd been under the impression that this couldn't be done. That's great news. (Perhaps this could be made more clear in the FAQs.)
