Editing a pair of Items in "Duplicate Items View

(1)I have a list of items which are being displayed in the duplicate items view.

(2) I select a pair of items

(3) I click on the plus for each to see the attachments.

(4) From the attachments I know the items are indeed different.

(5) I select the (top) item to highlite the pair again.

At this point I'm stuck....

I'd like a double left mouse to take me to the items (in the My Library view) so that I can edit them.

As it now I have to remember which items Zotero thinks are duplicates, go to the My Library view, and then edit the pair.
  • Ideally Zotero should not be picking up false positives (by definition). What two items are being identified as duplicates that are not? Can you export those two items as Zotero RDF and post the exported data to http://gist.github.com ?

How many false positives are you getting?
  • You should be able to selectively unselect items with the usual modifier keys (e.g., Ctrl on Windows), but it looks like this isn't working on Windows. (It works fine with Cmd on OS X.) Ticket created. In the meantime, you can just use up-arrow or down-arrow instead to select single items.

The current duplicate detection in the client is fairly unsophisticated. I have some improvements planned, borrowing from deduplication techniques that we'll be using on the server.

(Also, you can press right-arrow to expand all selected items. You don't need to click each twisty individually.)
  • Fixed by aurimas. Available in the latest 4.0 Branch dev XPI.
  • aurimas,

Not a whole lot of duplicates. But I have run into the problem before.

I had some books that had multiple printings/editions.

I had a paper where the author used the same title for two "different" publications. One was an internal report the other published in a journal.

Since Dan seems to expect this I'm not going to export problems. (I've fixed all that I had tonight already too...)

    Dan,

Thanks for the unselect tip. I didn't expect that solution to this minor annoyance.

Played a bit with Dan's suggestion. I didn't realize that you could singly select items in the "Duplicate Items" view, or that they would be editable if you did so. That being said, I now see that you can edit items in the "Duplicate Items" view itself which is a far better solution than jumping to the "My Library" view.

    Sweet!
