sync troubles

Unfortunately I was not able to sync standalone Zotero on Mac for 3 days. So, I am using "My Library" via Safari on Ipad to work with Zotero. I tried to reset it, then reinstall the standalone Zotero. Nothing happens...
  • I have been using Zotero online and now want to add Zotero Standalone on my PC. How do I sync the two? I tried to add my online username and password on the PC at preferences > sync, and I have also tried to register my standalone as a separate account, but in both cases the "sync with server" top right just keeps on turning around for ages. Also the Chrome extension for Zotero 4 for Windows does not seem to work - no icon or link appears bottom right.
  • Zotero for chrome is not the same as Zotero for Firefox. there is no Zotero button on the bottom right. You can check if it's working by going to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1604598913?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links You should see a book icon in the URL bar.

    you don't want to create a new account. you want to use the same username and password that you use to log in on zotero.org. If you hover over the spinning arrow, what does it say? it's there a red exclamation mark next to it?
  • Thanks for the quick comment. I reentered my initial username and password. The green sync icon on the top right keeps on turning. If I hover over it it says "logging in to sync server".

    This is assuming you're behind an authenticated proxy. Basically, if you're using 4.0.8, it should work if this a full system proxy. If it's a partial proxy, you could still have trouble.

    I see a sync of yours from a couple hours ago, though, so hopefully this is resolved.
  • You are right - the proxy was the problem. Worked like a charm at home where I do not use a network. Sync worked perfectly. I am very impressed with Zotero and with your quick, accurate and very helpful feedback. Thanks!

    I try to get more info, for days waiting for my standalone Zotero to provide me ID through "Report errors" bottom. But the option is grey and I cannot generate ID. In the same time the "sync" icon on the right side is just running for hours and nothing happens while there is written "Logging into sync server"...
  • cszalo: Restart Firefox or Zotero, try to sync again, and post here when you do.
