Publisher Field - Best Practice?
How should the publisher field be populated so that the publisher will appear correctly when output in various styles and languages?
I believe that some styles require that the publisher name be in different formats. Some exclude "Inc.", "GmBh", etc. Some also exclude part of the actual name. "Acme Publishers" becomes "Acme", Springer Verlag or Springer Science becomes Springer. (The latter can be really confusing because there are at least two different publishing companies with "Springer" in the name.)
Do the various styles produce exactly what is in the Publisher field or do some styles work their magic to adjust the field content to the proper form?

adamsmithwe can't handle this smartly at the moment. The publisher field is always printed verbatim.

adamsmith(FWIW, if we're going to add functionality it will always be easier to remove things than to add them, so I'd recommend including words like publisher and Verlag unless the citation style(s) you're most commonly using doesn't accept those.)
