initial letters in citations

how can i remove the initial letters in the citation
now i get: (T.L. Horvath 2005)
and i want it to be: (Horvath 2005)

can anyone please answer me how it is done??
  • What style? Is there another record with Horvath as an author in your database? Was there another citation by that author in your manuscript? Check how all records in your database with Horvath as author have his/her name entered. They should be exactly the same. Are you sure that Horvath is not recorded in your database as one field rather than lastname / firstname?
  • Thank you for your quick answer!
i changled the styles a few times already and it stays the same, now my style is "American Psychological Association 6th Edition"
and i checked there is no other Horvath and it is recorded in 2 fields lastname / firstname
  • Open a fresh document and add a Horvath citation to it in the same style. Does the name appear without initials then?
  • yes it does! no initials!
    what can i do?
  • and its a 50 pages long document..
  • Check if there are two or more items in your database (not the document) for the Horvath reference, with different forms for the name.
  • it appears only once in my database
  • Did you check the trash as well?
  • my trash is ampty

Well, that is very odd. A common way for that to occur is for the same source to be cited twice from different items. In that case, Zotero will attempt to distinguish the references by adding names or initials, depending on the style's requirements.

One further thing to check is the Horvath citation itself, in the document. Try opening it for editing (using the Zotero edit-citation button), and see if you get a warning that the content will update. (Zotero allows direct editing of the citation in the document, and "freezes" the citation when that happens. You can unfreeze it by opening the citation for editing with Zotero.)

If that's not the cause, I'm just kind of puzzled at this point.
  • I think i managed by just coping and pasting to a new file.
inspired by your first comment that worked.
    Thank you!
