Zotero 4.0 and Firefox 20 for Mac & EBSCO

With Firefox 20 and Zotero 4 there is an unresolved translator problem that prevents adding article from EBSCO Academic Host Premier to Zotero collection.

I had to revert to Firefox 19.

    could you specify that a bit more - works fine for me on Academic Search Premier (which is what I assume you mean?). What do you search for, what are you trying to import?

    Could not find problem in the known translator issues.

    Interestingly enough, I don't have the problem with Firefox 20 and Zotero 4 on another Mac and I don't have it with Firefox 20 in the Mac's Parallels Windows 8, so it's not the proxy server problem.

    We need to know the database you're saving from, with a sample reference you're trying to save. There are lots of EBSCO databases.

    We also need a Report ID after triggering the error.

    I cannot reproduce the error with any of those articles.

    As Dan requested we need a Report ID (see link in his post).

    Are you behind a proxy? What is the URL from which you are trying to save these items (exactly as you see it in Firefox)?

    Edit: But I am testing on Windows, so perhaps this is something specific to Mac

    this sounds like something very specific to that one set-up.

    First, upgrade to 4.0.5. You're still on 4.0.4.

    Also, can you reproduce this with all your other Firefox extensions disabled?

    If so, can you provide a Debug ID for a save attempt?

    It must be a proxy server issue because I can add articles from my office when I'm not going through the proxy.

    Was this issue ever resolved? I think I am having the same problem. It may have started when I updated Firefox and Zotero recently. I am currently using the most up-to-date versions of both (Zotero 4.0.6).

    I am using EBSCO (in Firefox) and it won't allow me to add any articles. I can still add articles from other places (i.e. Google Scholar). Here is an example article:

    are you going through a proxy? Could you paste an EBSCO URL as you see it?

    It was not resolved for me. Zotero worked on my MacBook Air and my iMac, but not on my MacBookPro--though it did work in the MacBookPro Parallels partition, so I don't think the proxy server access is the problem. It did not work when I was on-campus not going through the proxy server.

    When I have time I will go to the Apple Store genius bar to see if the genius has any ideas.

    The RIS request is returning an "Off-Campus Article Database Access" login page from the university library.

    @Dan, but that's Zotero for Firefox, so is it not sending cookies? Can you tell from the log?

    Edit: and can you see what the original URL was vs the request for RIS? Is there session info embedded in the URL or something?

    I just checked this via ezproxy and it's working for me. It may be related to EBSCOhost Integrated Search (ehis), which I do not have access to (I think).

    @bsundstrom, if you go to http://search.epnet.com through your proxy and search for that article in the Communication Abstracts database, can you import it from there?

    Edit: Also, what's the URL exactly as you see it?

    A bit of a stab in the dark, but what are your privacy settings in Firefox? Do you maybe have Firefox set to not remember cookies? or not allow third party cookies?

    Yes, for some reason, Firefox was in privacy mode. It must have happened during the recent update. It seems to be working now. Thank you so much!

    (note to self, Dan, & Aurimas - we really need to add this to the translator troubleshooting. It takes us 10 posts to figure out every single time).

    The last two (maybe three) updates of FF switched me to a higher privacy mode without action by me. I had to reset it to my previous setting to get Zotero and several websites to work properly.

    My "normal" settings:

    Tracking: Tell websites I do not want to be tracked -- NOT ticked

    History: Firefox will remember history

    After the updates, the Tell Websites box became ticked and the history settings were changed to: Use custom settings with accept third-party cookies _unticked_ I think that the normal setting is to accept third-party cookies.

    I know that I must reverse these unwanted automatic changes for my PubMed (MyNCBI) settings to be remembered.
