importing attachments doesn't work anymore

With the most recent zotero, exporting a reference (or severeal) with an attachment (ie., a pdf) and importing it again fails to work. Everything will be exported properly (pdf exists on disk, rdf is correct) and the reference will be imported just fine, but the attachments won't be there.
  • regression? Same bug some time ago already ... http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/23573/importing-files-does-not-work/
  • works for me - what set-up are you trying this on? (OS, Zotero version, FF version if applicable)?
I don't think this is related to the last issue - any updates to the RDF translator since then shouldn't affect file import.

Make sure you have the latest 4.0.4 version of Zotero. If the problem persists, provide a debug ID for an import (http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output ). Also, if you don't mind trying this with a different export format like RIS or Bibtex.
  • Fedora 18

    version => 4.0.4, platform => Linux i686, oscpu => Linux i686, locale => en-US, appName => Firefox, appVersion => 20.0

    The Debug ID is D2131103433

Apparently a bit different than the older bug mentioned above, since the attachment won't be there at all, while the old bug changed it into a link. Can reproduce the bug on ubuntu 12.04 BTW.
  • I can't reproduce this on Ubuntu 12.10
could you post a sample RDF online on gist.github.com or pastebin.com ? Obviously we don't need the files themselves, but export with the files so we can see the links.

Also, per above - do you get files importing with other formats like RIS or Bibtex?

    Sample RDF: http://pastebin.com/Wmi6TUEA

With RIS and Bibtex things work fine; attachments are imported correctly.

A peculiarity of my setup is that I am using en_US locale, not en_US.UTF8
  • Dan - can you see anything in the set-up?

I've tried importing with exactly your RDF without problems (renaming random pdfs to match the filename).
    en_US locale, not en_US.UTF8
I think that could be related, though I don't see anything in the filepaths that should be affected by that.
The "pages" field looks screwy in your export, but I don't think that should affect attachments.
  • Simon might have a better idea here, but I don't see anything obvious. I wouldn't think this would be related to the file anyway, since the attachment item itself isn't being imported.
  • fixed in 4.0.5
  • Hi rtc1,

I downloaded Zotero 4.0.5 yesterday and I have still the same bug. By uploading the RDF the attachements do not appear.

It works for other export format but not with RDF.

    Is there an other solution?

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi timcou,

you are right, my statement that it was fixed in 4.0.5 was incorrect.

I had successfully imported some RDF with attachment, but not the one reported above, and made the wrong conclusion.

Apparently it works in some cases (already at the time I reported), but not in others. It has not improved in 4.0.5.
  • there are a number of file import fixes in 4.0.6 (not out yet). I'd expect them to fix that. If you're in a big hurry you can try the branch xpi:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev_builds#zotero_40_branch
otherwise the 4.0.6 release should be out shortly
