future request - add stand-alone notes and folders from email and other sources
I just stated using Zotero, and I love it. Thank you for creating and sharing it! It's a great help.
I belong to numerous elists in my area (writing for children/teens), and there are often great ideas that I would like to remember and expand on. Ideally, I would like to be able to copy a few paragraphs from an email, and paste it directly into Zotero, into its own folder and as a stand-alone note--like Zotero does with an archived web page.
I would also love to be able to do the same with any text notes I create.
And, it would be wonderful if Zotero not only existed as an add-in in FireFox (which I love) but *also* as a stand alone program, that I could open up at any time to search through and view files.

Zotero supports the creation of standalone notes. Just click the "New Standalone Note" button. If you're using web-based email, you can also highlight text in the browser, right-click it and select "Create Zotero Item and Note from Selection." Will this functionality accomplish what you want to do?
