Zotero won't start in Ubuntu's Firefox 20.0

The response I get is an error message "There was an error starting Zotero."

I've also rebooted et.c.

Basically nothing works in the "Preferences" section, either. The dialogue opens, but all the buttons are dead, apart from taking focus when clicking. Links, they do work. Text links. But of course they do...

    Install Zotero 4.0 from zotero.org. The version from addons.mozilla.org isn't compatible with Firefox 20.

    Did that, figured it out on my own. FF is supposed to check for updates for add-ons at startup, at least that's my setting.

    Oh, well.

    if you had installed zotero from addons.mozilla that would have happened. As Dan says, the update isn't available there yet.

    (We've actually taken down the AMO version, at least for now, because of long delays like this one getting critical updates out.)

    Thanks everyone. I updated firefox yesterday and got a nasty shock when I went to grap a reference. Installling 4.0 worked like a charm.
